Dale Abbey is a rural, picturesque village in Derbyshire within a conservation area. The villages boasts the unique semi-detached All Saints Church and the medieval ruins of St. Mary's Abbey.

Woodpecker Cottage is situated on the outskirts of the village next to a meadow and a bluebell wood with its Hermits Cave and footpath/bridleway which leads past the ruins and church to the pleasant, local public house where meals are served at mid-day and in the evenings; further on the footpath leads through estate land.

There are footpaths and circular walks, bridleway and cycle routes from the door and around the locality. Although enjoying a quite rural aspect, Woodpecker Cottage is only a 10 minute country road drive away from major routes providing central access to many beautiful walks, attractions and places of interest across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
